Lower-Income Cat-Spay/Neuter Program
Program
Through our Lower-Income Spay/Neuter Program you can apply for free vouchers
redeemable at our participating area veterinary clinics.
Vouchers cover the complete cost to spay or neuter each cat
and vaccinate once for rabies if done while the cat is in for surgery.
Eligibility
To apply, you must meet the following criteria:
- Reside in northern New Mexico (excluding Albuquerque and Rio Rancho)
with 1-6 cats (living indoors or outdoors).
- The cats are in your care, you are not looking for other homes
for them and will not abandon them or relinquish them to a shelter.
- Your annual family income (for all the adults in the home combined)
is under $40,000.
- You're the head of your household and are at least 18 years old.
- Your intent is to fix all of the cats in your care.
Application Procedure
Call to apply at 505-466-1676 during daytime business hours.
If we're unavailable, leave a voice mail
and we'll return your call promptly.
Application Timetable
If you're approved, your vouchers will be mailed within 3 working days.
If you don't receive them within 10 days,
something likely went wrong so call us to correct.
Voucher Procedure
A list of
participating veterinary clinics
is printed on the face of the vouchers.
Select the one you wish to work with and call them as soon as possible
to set up your appointment(s) —
it may take a week or two to get scheduled and the vouchers must be used
before their expiration date (printed on center of voucher).
We do not re-issue expired vouchers.
Take the vouchers with your cats to the spay/neuter appointment.
The clinic needs the voucher to verify that you're authorized to use
our program and to bill us for their services.
For everyone's safety, deliver your cats to their appointment
each in their own cat carrier or live trap (if feral).
Cats can get very stressed in travelling and confining more than one cat
in the same container is dangerous.
Re-application
If you've previously participated in our program
and have abided by our program requirements,
you may apply for additional vouchers at a later date,
provided the total number of cats fixed
doesn't exceed our lifetime total of 6.
At our discretion, we may honor your request for more vouchers —
but don't assume that because you've received vouchers before
that you'll receive more.
